Ampelos is the mountain range that runs across northern Samos and gives its name to the settlements on its slopes, near Stavrinides and Manolates. This is the green side of the island: chestnut and pine forest, springs, and stone houses at 400–600 m with open views over the north coast. Properties are mainly traditional dwellings for restoration and forest-edge plots. Building rules here are stricter than on the coast because of the settlement boundaries and forestry maps, so a topographic survey plan with EGSA 87 coordinates is essential before any purchase.
